The Orbi 860 mesh routers from Netgear are a more cost-effective way to get multiple gigabit connections.

After much anticipation, Netgear has finally introduced its new Orbi routers, which include 10Gbps Ethernet but don’t cost as much as their predecessors.

Orbi 860 series mesh routers include 10Gbps Ethernet like the 960 series, but they only provide tri-band WiFi 6 instead of the quad-band WiFi 6E found in the top-tier model.

If you don’t want large areas to be covered, you can alternatively get a standalone router. If you’re familiar with the Orbi 850, you’ll recognize the general layout, but the new antenna system boasts improved range and theoretically faster throughput. The performance of your network’s edge nodes may improve.

There are a total of four Ethernet ports between the router and its satellites, albeit the speed of the wired connections is capped at 1Gbps. According to Netgear, a full mesh may cover up to 8,000 square feet.

Also, if you don’t want excessive range, a standalone router may be more to your liking. If you’re familiar with the Orbi 850, you’ll immediately recognize the design. However, the new antenna system boasts increased range and theoretically faster speeds. Netgear claims that the Orbi 860 three-pack (RBK863) can cover up to 8,000 square feet and handle up to 100 connected devices at once.

The performance of your network’s edge nodes may improve. You can increase the range of the mesh network by purchasing additional satellites (RBS860) if that current range is insufficient. There are a total of four Ethernet ports between the router and its satellites, albeit the speed of the wired connections is capped at 1Gbps.

The new Orbi 860 is now available for preorder on Netgear‘s website, with shipments beginning later this month. According to Netgear, a full mesh may cover up to 8,000 square feet. The Spanish Cobras, their worst enemies, lived just across Central Park Avenue.
