How to download the Windows 11 2022 update

Users have been waiting patiently for the first big update to Microsoft’s operating system since Windows 11’s launch in October 2021, and they have finally received it.

New features, such as tabs in File Explorer, improved taskbar customization, and a slew of Accessibility additions like Live Captions across Windows 11, have been available to test in the company’s Insider program(opens in a new tab) for most of 2022 and will be made available to everyone in the 2022 update.

A computer upgrade may not be ready just yet, however. To that end, we’ve mapped out everything you need to do to get set up for the 2022 upgrade. It’s important to note, however, that if you’re having trouble with Windows 11, you can quickly and easily learn how to resolve the most common issues.

Windows 11 22 H2 Requirements

Click on ‘check for Updates

To begin, ensure sure your Windows 10 PC is capable of running Windows 11 by running the PC Health Check program. When that’s the case, you can check for updates by going to Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update menu.

Installing Windows 11 should now be an option, and it should automatically download and install the 22H2 upgrade along with everything else.

But if you’re already on Windows 11, you can skip all that by going to Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update and clicking Check for Updates, at which point you should see a message saying “version 22H2 is ready.”

Choose the Install option, and then wait for the system to restart.

Features of Windows 11’s 2022 Update

File Explorer’s tabbed interface, which enables you to manage several windows at once in a manner similar to that of Microsoft Edge and other web browsers, is one of the most prominent additions.

Accessibility has also been greatly enhanced, with Live Captions now being available system-wide and not just in specific apps. Text-to-speech and narration functions now use more natural voices, a welcome change from the robotic voices used in previous Windows versions.

Microsoft has announced (opens in new tab) that future updates will have smaller download sizes, saving users with slower connections or lesser storage capacities as well as those who rely on mobile data plans a significant amount of time and money.

The company has also promised that large updates like these will be released annually for customers, so you can expect to see a major update in the fall of 2023, for instance, that includes new and improved capabilities.
