On October 30, 1945, in Manhattan, New York City, Henry Franklin Winkler was born. His father, Harry Irving Winkler, was an importer and exporter of lumber, while his mother, Ilse Anna Marie (née Hadra), worked at home. Richard Belzer, who is also an actor and is his cousin, has a sister named Beatrice.
German Jews from Berlin were Winkler’s parents. In 1939, just before World War II began, they immigrated to the United States.
