His fourth and final marriage was to Dreama Perry, whom he married in 1979 and remained with until his death.

Denver, a heavy smoker, had both cancer treatment and a heart bypass operation in his later years. He died at the age of 70 after undergoing throat cancer surgery in September 2005.
