Krebs, the adolescent beatnik best buddy of Dobie Gillis’ Dwayne Hickman, became his breakout role. Before the show was canceled in 1963 after four seasons, Denver had performed the part. He also appeared in episodes of “Dr. Kildare,” “The Farmer’s Daughter,” and “The Andy Griffith Show,” among other television programs.
A career in the Movies
In Raoul Walsh’s 1959 musical comedy, “A Private’s Affair,” Denver made his feature film debut. In the James Stewart and Sandra Dee starrer “Take Her, She’s Mine,” he played a coffeehouse singer. Following that, Denver appeared in the beach party flick “For Those Who Think Young” as part of the ensemble.
Who’s Minding the Mint?; The Sweet Ride; and Did You Hear the One About The Traveling Saleslady? were some of his future films. In the 1987 beach party satire “Back to the Beach,” which starred Annette Funicello and Frankie Avalon, Denver played a bartender.

Personal Life
Denver had four marriages in his lifetime. The marriage lasted from 1960 to 1966, when he divorced Maggie Ryan. From 1967 to 1970, Denver was married to Jean Webber. In the years that followed, he was wed to Carole Abrahams, with whom he lived until 1975. His fourth and final marriage was to Dreama Perry, whom he married in 1979 and remained with until his death.
Denver, a heavy smoker, had both cancer treatment and a heart bypass operation in his later years. He died at the age of 70 after undergoing throat cancer surgery in September 2005.
