David Arquette reprises the role of Dewey Riley in the new Scream movie, which is now in theatres, and horror fans will have the chance to see him in another new horror release less than a month from now. Arquette stars in Ghosts of the Ozarks, which XYZ Films will be giving a theatrical, digital, and On Demand release on February 3rd, and you can watch the trailer in the embed above!
Directed by Matt Glass and Jordan Wayne Long from a screenplay Long wrote with Tara Perry and Sean Anthony Davis, Ghosts of the Ozarks is described as being an “exciting new take on the southern ghost story.” Here’s the synopsis:
In post-Civil War Arkansas, a young doctor is mysteriously summoned to a remote town in the Ozarks only to discover that the utopian paradise is filled with secrets and surrounded by a menacing, supernatural presence.
Arquette is joined in the cast by Tim Blake Nelson (O Brother, Where Are Thou?), Angela Bettis (May), Thomas Hobson (12 Hour Shift), Phil Morris (Doom Patrol), and co-writer Tara Perry (Lucky).
Glass and Long have a 7 minute short film called Ghosts of the Ozarks on their filmographies, so it looks like this is a “feature expansion” situation. The directing duo made their feature debut with the 2018 comedy thriller Squirrel. Hobson and Perry were both in Squirrel and the short version of Ghosts of the Ozarks as well.
Ghosts of the Ozarks looks interesting to me and Glass and Long were able to assemble a strong cast for the film, so I will probably be checking this one out when it’s released next month.
