Inducted Into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, Lionel Richie Will Receive the Am as Icon Award in 2022.
It’s time to celebrate Lionel Richie twice! The singer has experienced two days of success, including being named the 2022 American Music Awards Icon Award recipient and being inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame.
Richie will be the first musician in history to have performed on the AMAs stage in each decade since the show’s inception, according to an announcement made by the event’s producers on Monday. On November 20, he will be presented with the Icon Award during the AMA presentation.

Along with Carly Simon, Dolly Parton, Eminem, and Dolly, Richie made it to the Rock Hall on Saturday night. The 73-year-old singer added, “I cannot and will not leave this stage without thanking my dear dear dear friends The Commodores.”
Thank God for the Commodores, without whom Lionel Richie would not have existed. I might add that some people have genuinely had to put up with a lot.

The Singer will be Presented with the AMA Icon Award 2022
Lionel Richie has had a tremendous influence on numerous people all over the world as well as the music business as a whole, according to Jesse Collins, executive producer of the 2022 AMAs, who announced the honor.

Lionel Richie is a 17-time AMA winner
For his instrumental hit Machine Gun in 1974, the first year of the awards, Richie took home his first two AMAs.
He was the first celebrity to solo host the awards in January 1984. He was back as the anchor in 1985, and that evening, he took home six awards. His 18th overall AMA will be for the Icon honor.
A musician whose body of work has had a significant impact on the music industry on a global scale is given the Icon Award by the American Music Awards. Rihanna was the inaugural winner of the award when it was first presented in 2013.
