Career

Ernie Boch Jr. inherited his grandfather Andrew Boch’s vehicle sales and repair business, which he started in 1945 by obtaining a Nash Motors franchise in Norwood, Massachusetts.

He traveled on the road with many bands after graduating from Berklee. He eventually returned to Norwood and began working at one of his father’s car dealerships. He subsequently admitted, “And I simply got addicted.” During the day, he sold automobiles, but at night, he chatted with Boston celebs and singers.

His lifestyle landed him in the news and strained his relationship with his father, who “fired him from dealership jobs at least twice.” When his father died, he inherited the company. Ernie Boch Jr. appeared in a television commercial shortly after his father’s death, paying tribute to his father. Boch Jr. was in a car, looking in the rearview mirror at scenes from an old commercial depicting his father. Boch Jr. drove away with a smile on his face.

Boch Jr. sold the majority of his dealerships in October 2015, but they kept the Boch name and he remained the public face of the businesses. He kept his Ferrari and Maserati business, as well as his position as CEO of Subaru New England.

Ernie Jr.’s First Car

Ernie Jr.’s first car was a British racing green Volkswagen Beetle from 1971. He bought it from his family’s Toyota dealership’s used automobile department when he was 16 years old, in 1974.

He earned his bachelor’s degree in music from Boston’s Berklee College of Music.

Philanthropy

Music Drives Us,” a regional organization encouraging music in New England, was launched by Boch in 2005. Music preservation, music education, and music awareness are its three main focuses.

It equips around 200 public schools in Boston and New England with instruments and funds music programs. In 2017, he claimed, “I’ve financed Boston public schools with music programs that didn’t have instruments, music programs literally in basements next to the water heater.” “Music should be taught in schools in the same way that arithmetic is taught.”

Boch joined Berklee’s board of trustees in 2005. Since then, he has overseen numerous large Berklee fundraising initiatives.

He agreed to underwrite the company that administers the Shubert and Wang theatres in Boston, currently called the Boch Center, in 2016.

He gave an unannounced one-million-dollar donation to the Barstool Fund in January 2021, in support of their efforts to assist small companies affected by the coronavirus outbreak.
